HELLO THERE!
IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU!
I’m Ariss King—an all around creative! I’m a professional graphic designer, a quirky illustrator, a marketing maven, and much more! I was born and (mostly) raised in the Jackson metro area of Mississippi where I was immersed in the arts since I was three years old. I’m known for my unconventional approaches to projects, where I have no fear in exploring different styles to meet challenges with an open mind and empathetic heart.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with different people from all walks of life. When I started working at the age of thirteen, I learned how to communicate with my local community through retail customer service and being an administrative assistant for different stores and small businesses.
While attending college, I studied abroad to learn French (Oui, je parle francais un peu—Je peux aller aussi loin que la salle de bain!) Also, I got a chance to volunteer for local, fun events such as different comic cons and became one of the main celebrity ambassadors. I interned for an award-winning free press company where I not only got to sharpen my design and layout skills, but because of my strong theater background, I got a chance to be the stage manager for various fundraisers against domestic violence and became the event planner for parties with 1,000+ attendees celebrating the best businesses of Jackson. I also got an opportunity to intern for a large-scale, high-volume vinyl print company where I learned photo-editing and some prepress skills.
I’m happiest when I can research different worlds and cultures! From baking, reading books and graphic novels, illustrating mini zines (self-published magazines), and acting on stage or helping behind the scenes—I always find an opportunity for my mind to travel and expand possibilities. I believe that getting to share experiences with people in my community through exchanging thoughts and creativity is a way we all win!
My hope is that my own experiences and my interpretations of the stories I’ve been told throughout my life from the people and lessons in my world come across strongly in any creative endeavor that I pursue!
